I've seen this set for about $132.
What can I say. You can't share music with other people, we do although it's forbidden. But if you want to earn some money with your old record, no problem, you can shell it.
I'm not against second hand market, I'd pay for so many of records that are out of print. But is funny. Good music is for rich people, no money, no culture, that's all. Here we are to solve this injustice.

For all you this wonderful set…

$132!! A totally outrageous attempt to extort money from people who love art. I'm glad there is a used market BUT stuff like this ticks me off.

Well, I don't enjoy being vitriolic -- SO, thank YOU for developing this very special blog! And this is another great post! In fact, everything you've put up so far has been top notch.

The only problem for me IS that I have trouble keeping up since I am a free RS user. BUT, don't mistake me, I sincerely hope you'll keep posting music at your current pace for as long as you have the time and stamina to do so.

I'm really looking forward to this one!

Dale

Hi Dale,
The only really bad thing of post music is upload it 'cause take a lot of time. Anyway in the future I'll try to upload files in different places, but I've found that most of them have several incovenients.
If yoh have some idea…

gosh!
that´s a huge price. a lot of records ascend to prohibitive prices, and it´s a shame, cause music should be for the people to hear, to enjoy, not some kind of prize for a rich man ego.

thanks for this sharing.

ps: about the uploads; i really like rapidshare, although i don´t have a premier account, and it kind of sucks, cause i have to wait a lot of time between downloads. there are other options, like zshare, which allows people to make 4 downloads at a time..
anyway, as long as isnt in sendspace it´s ok :)

Hi Mississippi Blind Joe
While I'm working on Doek Festival concerts I'm going to post another richmanrecord, Anthony Braxton Quartet (Dortmund) 1976, I've seen this one for about CDN$ 170.
If I've got more time I'll try to post both, rapidshare and zshare.

thanks for this. listening to it right now...

as regards comments, or the lack of them (as you wondered, on another post) - it's well-known that blogging is largely a thankless task! even if you are sharing music... that's just how it goes i'm afraid. still, it will make you appreciate the comments you *do* get :)

a point of (potential!) interest: in the second of the quartets with fred anderson, mengelberg clearly has his own piece "kwela p'kwana" in mind throughout, and quotes from it obliquely (that is, the rhythms remain the same, the intervals similar but the actual harmonic relationship of the notes is never a direct quote) - either the other three don't know the piece or don't feel like joining in, but it works quite well, as the tonality is kept necessarily open, avoiding the fixed chord structure that mm's composition carries with it... i like the effect, and mm seems to have fun with it too, sharing a private joke with himself while remaining open to the other players...

don't really like vandermark much on the monk pieces.

still haven't found the time to hear the album in its entirety though... anyway, thanks again :)

Hi centrifuge,
Is true, in some way Mengelberg "plays" with other players. In his music happend, this "going around the song but never into". The way the ICP orchestra & co, construct and deconstruct music. I really like it

About Vandermark, I really don't know what to think. I've seen Mengelberg in concert for six times and "always" remind me Thelonious sonority (silences, chords…). Yes he's got the feeling…

Maybe this is what Vandermark needs here. Is like he can't get into. Sometimes he convince to me but maybe he is too conventional and a bit flavourless. Just the opposite of Baars in Body & Soul, thought.

Many thanks, is good that you appreciate my "artwork". I began five years ago, I made the covers for my recordings at old Bimhuis, Zoek Festival#3. When I've got time I like to put some face to my faceless cds. And 'cause I'm a graphic designer is even some kind of training. This take me alot of time. But I really enjoy (and suffer) with this, I love this music!

Hi Centrifuge„
I'm not going to delete the comment I left you above, but there are several things i'd like to correct, or at least explain better my point of view.
Now is impossible, but in the next days i'll try…

centrifuge said...

aha, yes... i did wonder whether you might do that sort of thing (graphic design etc) for a living :)

i'll check back to see your updated/corrected comments when they are ready!
